If you’re like many on the near east side, you plan your summers around the neighborhood music festivals. This tradition of gathering together with neighbors around exceptional live music goes back almost fifty years to the first festival in Orton Park, and is surely one of the reasons Marquette was named one of the country’s “Top 10 Great Neighborhoods” by the American Planning Association.
Beyond bringing outstanding local, regional and international performers to our own backyard, these festivals help fund the organizations that work to build a stronger, more vibrant community. With the backing of Marquette Neighborhood Association, Wil-Mar Neighborhood Center, Greater Williamson Area Business Association, Common Wealth Development and an army of volunteers and sponsoring neighborhood businesses, these events are definitely for the people, by the people.
So come enjoy the music. Dance with friends. And leave your cooler at home.
